Mongolian people have maintained their nomadic lifestyle for centuries, still moving their camps on a regular basis to find fertile pasture to feed their livestock. It is fascinating to see how these people tend their animals in the extreme climate of Mongolia; how they make diary products - an important part of their traditional diet, and how the Ger is still their "favorite" dwelling.

The city of Karakorum flourished in the IV-IX century and. In 1220AD great Emperor Genghis Khan declared it as a capital city of his vast Empire. Many other Mongolian Khans continued to use Karakorum as the capital of their Empires. Today there are many interesting sites left to visit; the legendary turtle rock sculpture, Buddhist stupas and the ruins of this once great city to name a few.

Erdenezuu ("One Hundred Treasures") is the first Buddhist monastery in the Mongolian Empire. It was established in 1586 by Abtai Sain, the reigning Khan in the capital city of Karakorum. Today Erdenezuu monastery still retains much of its former glory with collections of many religious objects.
The enormous Taihar chuluu is a steep-sided pinnacle of granite 25m high. It is bizarre rock formation that rises abruptly from the flat grasslands edging the Tamir river.

Chuluut river begins in the Hangai mountain range and flows through a sheer basalt canyon, 100 km long and 50m deep. The scenery is ideal for photography and just relaxing.

Khorgo uul volcano was active some 2000 years ago. The volcano is 2240 m high and lies to the east of Terhiin Tsagaan Lake. One of the most interesting sights of the Khorgo region is the "Basalt-Ger", curious rock formations on the south side of the volcano reaching up to 1.7m.

Arhangai province is famous for discoveries of ancient stone monuments and petroglyphs. We will explore many of these while traveling through this beautiful province.
